Common questions

Remortgage questions, answered straight

How long does a remortgage take?

Most remortgages complete in four to eight weeks from application. We recommend starting three to six months before your current deal ends, so you can lock in a rate and avoid landing on your lender's variable rate.

Will I have to pay to switch?

Many lenders offer free valuation and free legal work as part of their remortgage packages. The main cost to watch for is an early repayment charge if you're still inside a fixed-rate period. We'll work out whether switching now or waiting saves you more before you commit to anything.

Should I stay with my current lender or switch?

Staying with your current lender (a product transfer) is faster and involves fewer checks, but it rarely gives you the best rate available. We always compare your lender's retention offers against the wider market.

What happens if I do nothing when my deal ends?

Your lender will move you onto their standard variable rate, which is almost always higher than the best deals on the market. Even a few months on the variable rate can cost you far more than you need to pay.

Is the review really free?

Yes. Your initial review and mortgage recommendation are completely free with no obligation. If you choose to proceed and we arrange your mortgage, a broker fee of £499 may apply. We'll always be upfront about any costs before you commit.
